Susan Avery Obituary

Susan Joan Trexler Avery, 82, of Riverdale, Michigan, died May 23, 2025, in Midland, Michigan, after a catastrophic medical event.
Although Sue was born May 12, 1943, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, after spending a couple years in southwest Detroit as a small child she grew up mainly in Crystal, Michigan. She was among those in the last graduating class of Crystal High School in 1961 (and proud of it!).
Sue married Joel Monroe Avery in 1962, and they settled near Riverdale where they raised two girls through grit and determination. She was a creative person and a passionate reader, delving into books on all topics. Sue was interested in young people and led several Girl Scout Troops in Vestaburg over the years, served a brief stint on the Vestaburg School Board when someone else stepped down, taught junior high Sunday School for years at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Edmore, and most recently volunteered at the Vestaburg Church of Christ Care and Share.
She is survived by daughters Sarah (Mark Prout) of Alma, Michigan, and Linda (Andy) Avery-Eaton of Kodiak, Alaska; two grandchildren, Tayla Eaton and John Eaton, of Kodiak, AK; her brother, Joseph Daniel Trexler, of Ruby, Michigan, and her three nephews, Shannon, Eric, and Lyle Trexler, and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy May Soop and James Joseph Trexler, husband Joel Monroe Avery, and a grandson, Levi Avery Wojtowicz.
Sue's mortal body has been cremated. Memorial services celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11:00am at the Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home in Riverdale, Michigan. A luncheon and time to visit with family will be held at the Vestaburg High School Commons in Vestaburg immediately after the service. Interment of ashes will take place in the future in Richland Township Cemetery, Vestaburg, Michigan. Sue's spirit lives on through her survivors and those who were lucky to receive one or two of her many cards and personal notes over the years.
