Susan “Sioux” Handschiegel, 48, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025.

Susan “Sioux” Handschiegel was born in Park Ridge, Illinois on May 30, 1976, to Tom and Linda Handschiegel. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ramapo College of New Jersey with a bachelor’s degree. Sioux worked at Harrods Creek Auto where she was employed as an administrative assistant. She will be remembered for her love of reading, writing, gardening, and knitting. Sioux will be remembered most of all for the love she held for her dogs and family.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her significant other of 13 years, Brian Collins; brother, Thomas Albert Handschiegel (Julianna Miller); granddaughter, Eva Lenn Collins; niece, Olive Liebe Handschiegel; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Edward A. Nowik and Geraldine C. Nowik; paternal grandparents, Albert H. Handschiegel and Lucille Handschiegel; father and mothers in law, Rufus H. Collins, Gladys Mae Collins, and Dorothy P. Collins.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St Mary Catholic Church in Byron.
