Suzanne Canter Obituary

Suzy Mandel-Canter passed away peacefully at 3:00 a.m. PT on Friday, July 11, 2025, in the loving arms of her devoted husband. Throughout her 22-month journey with AML, he never left her side-helping her become one of the greatest warriors of all time.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Jeff Canter, sons Zac and Perry, Zac's partner Haley, and her grandson Caleb. Also carrying her spirit forward are her sisters Faith and Robin, and her niece Maggie. She is joining her parents Seba and Saul Mandel along side her brothers, Mark and Robert in that art studio in the sky.
A lifelong animal lover, Suzy was cat mom to Gucci, Pucci, and Trekka, pet grandma to Gungi, Penny and Stella, and pet aunt to Tzippy, Pebbles, Lulu, and Scaredy Cat.

A Life of Love, Creativity, and Community
Wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend-Suzy was deeply loved. Her friendships spanned decades, and her community offered unwavering support through every chapter of her life.

Creative Legacy • Illustrated children's books for Little, Brown & Co., Warner Juvenile Books, and Viking, with permanent exhibits at the Zimmerli Children's Museum • Commissioned muralist at the Anchorage Imaginarium Children's Museum • Creator of books, cards, coloring books, glass art, and sculptures shown at SoHo galleries, Blue Note Jazz Club, Macy's, and FIT NYC • Collaborated with legendary artist Peter Max • Earned an Interactive Design certificate from Santa Monica College in 2005 • Won a Bronze Telly Award in 2008 for her documentary "Saul Mandel: 50 Years of Advertising"

Wine, Wonder & Whimsy
Suzy grew up in Jericho, NY, and lived in NYC, Hawaii, and Alaska before settling in Los Angeles, where she raised her family.
She later partnered with Jeff to create Caldeux Wines, designing their award-winning labels that beautifully reflected her vibrant creativity.

Family & Legacy
Daughter of celebrated illustrator Saul Mandel-creator of the Jolly Green Giant and USPS Love Stamp-Suzy proudly preserved and promoted his legacy through her art and documentary work.
She leaves behind not just beautiful creations, but a family and community transformed by her humor, courage, and love.

Suzy Mandel-Canter was a brilliant blend of artistry, spirit, strength, and funk. From whimsical illustrations to soulful portraits and dance-inspired sculpture, she turned life into art and art into joy.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
