Sven´s grandson Christain has been a great part of our life over the years. While we never met Sven his heritage and shines through Christian who is a hard worker and a friend that has always been there for our son, Jacob.
Christain moved to Portland and has been like a son to myself and my wife, Beth. We have always said he learned so much about kindness and respect from his grandfather.
Sven, may you rest in peace knowing the torch you burned has been passed on to your grandchildren.

We were blessed to grow up with great fathers on our street. You were a great role model of how a man should carry himself. Steady and calm, with a dry sense of humor and quick with a smile. You cared, and loved us all, and we could feel it. And it was a great feeling. Im sorry you had to leave us. But we will meet you again in the big neighborhood that waits for us all. I know how hard it is for your family but they have the treasure of your love in their hearts that will never leave them. God bless you Sven, well done, for a life well lived. Thank you for sharing your life with all of us, we were lucky know you and better for it.

One of my favorite memories of my childhood is the joy and fun I had growing up next door to the Nyhammer family!
Sven was such a vibrant, handsome, bigger than life figure when I was young.
He would amaze us kids kicking our soccer ball to the top of the neighborhood pine trees!
He always had a smile on his face and always treated me with kindness!
I am so thank you had the privilege of knowing him.
I will carry his memory with love

As another member of the Heather Lane clan, I too, have so many wonderful memories of the time spent in that special community of families. I have an early visual memory of Svein, returning from one of his trips to the Bering Sea walking up Heather Lane with a smile on his face and his seabag on his back. Will miss his epic smile.

I ran into Sven & Eva a few years ago while working the Shoreline Fred Meyer Store Security contract. It was truly a blessing when we all simultaneously recognized one another. We carried on visiting in the store aisle for over 20 minutes. In retrospect, we all feel blessed and rich for all which grew from our close association as neighbors on "Heather Lane" and for the terrific patriarchs of Sven, my dad (Fred), Mr Bill Kinney and the Ballard´s and Sorensens. People really looked out for one another back then.

The Anderson family was so fortunate to live across the street from the Nyhammer family. There were three girls and three boys in the Anderson family. The three boys were the youngest of the Anderson clan and in similar ages to the three oldest of the Nyhammer family. I personally spent many hours babysitting Eric and Vivian and Tina and Annie. Our families were very close, for so many years, and the cul-de-sac that we lived on, there were only four houses, but 16 children lived in three of the houses! Needless to say, the six parents of the 16 children became very, very close!
Sven, the patriarch of the Nyhammer clan, was a kind, quiet, honest man who loved his family and his lovely wife. He will be sorely missed.
