Terry Bogle Obituary

 On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, James “Terry” Bogle of Millersville, MD, passed away peacefully. Beloved husband of Kathryn M. Bogle; loving father of Terri Lynn Wootten and her husband, Joe, and Brian S. Bogle and his wife, Kimberly; devoted grandfather of Alexa, Reese, Jackson, Emma and Madelyn. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Doug Lingle; and many nieces, nephews and loving friends. Terry was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Bogle Lingle; and his parents, Blanche and James Bogle.

Born and raised in Salisbury, North Carolina, Terry was a lifelong TarHeel fan and played baseball at Appalachian State University. He moved to Maryland to teach Physical Education at Corkran Junior High School from 1964 until 1967. In 1967, he became the assistant boy’s basketball coach at Glen Burnie High School. He would become the head boy’s basketball coach in 1968. In 1967, he also became the assistant football coach at Glen Burnie, where the team finished the season undefeated. He would coach as an assistant coach until 1973.

The following spring, Terry became the school’s head baseball coach. His teams never finished less than half a game out of first place. He retired as the baseball coach in 1971. He later returned to the team at the request of the then Principal, Mrs. Frantum, for the 1977 and 1978 seasons. He coached the Gophers to the 1977 State Semifinals.

In 1978, Terry was named the school’s Athletic Director. He continued to coach basketball and led his team to the 1994 State Semifinals. He retired as the head boy’s basketball coach in 1996 and as the Physical Education teacher and Athletic Director in 1998. In 2017, he was honored with the High School’s gymnasium being named the “James T. Bogle” Gymnasium.

As a coach and a person, Terry’s focus in life was not on winning and losing, but on the success of his children, players, and students. An individual who never sought recognition, he retired as a coach just three games before reaching the milestone of 300 career wins. His job had been accomplished as former players and students still stopped by to reminisce with their coach up until his passing, for which he always loved and was very grateful for.

Terry was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, golfing, coaching, and arguing (oops, “discussing”) sports with his friends on the back porch of his and Kathryn’s home.

The Bogle and Wootten family would like to thank Dr. Nimmagadda and her team for their diligent work and care towards Terry, as they helped him accomplish over 20 years of fighting Lazy Bone Marrow disease and giving his family a lifetime with him.

 Family and friends are invited to gather at Severna Park United Methodist Church, Friday, May 16, 2025 for his Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 10:30 am. His Inurnment will be held at a later date privately.
