Thelma Mae James was born August 12, 1930, in (Harlem) New York, NY to Mr. William, Jr. and Mrs. Ruth Moss. At 11 years old she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at Fortress Avenue Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA. Thelma married the love of her life, Jessie J. James, in Buffalo, NY, at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, W.L. Jones, Pastor, where they served as Willing Workers. Thelma was employed as a Phlebotomist Technician at Buffalo General Hospital until she and Jessie both retired, decided to leave the cold, and moved to Lake Charles, LA to be closer to Jessie's family. While there they joined the Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church, then under the leadership of Pastors N. P. Jones, Jimmie R. Stevens, and Alvin Brass, where she served as an active member and devoted deaconess until her illness and move to Charlotte, NC. She departed this life on June 24, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Moss, III (brother), and nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Thelma leaves to cherish her memories a cousin she raised, David Bronner (Atlanta, GA), goddaughter, Susan A. Watts (Webster, NY), and her cousin and caretaker, Superior K. Allah (Charlotte, NC), and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, and church family. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 10:00am, at James Funeral Home. Pastor Alvin Brass will officiate. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of James Funeral Home.
