AHOSKIE, NC - Thomas Earl Brittenham, aged 78, peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at his home in
Ahoskie, North Carolina surrounded by his family. Born on May 20, 1947, in the small community of Millennium in Hertford County, NC, he was the beloved son of the late Harvey Jarnest Brittenham and Donnie Bell Hurdle Brittenham.
Thomas dedicated his life to hard work and service, holding the role of Owner and President of the Brittenham family business for many years. His passion for the outdoors was well known; he was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting and fishing. He took great pride in maintaining a pristine yard and had a fondness for all types of flowers. Additionally, Thomas was an enthusiastic cook, often delighting his family with delicious meals.
A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Thomas was a man whose generosity knew no bounds. He would willingly give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
Thomas was deeply involved in his community and spiritual life. He served as an Elder of Mercy Church, was a proud National Guardsman, and was a respected member of both the Shriners and the Masons. He was also a former firefighter with the Millennium Volunteer Fire Department, serving his community with dedication and courage. Thomas Earl Brittenham will be remembered for his unwavering love, kindness, and dedication to his family and community. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and generosity that will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Nelson Hurdle. He leaves behind countless cherished memories with his loving wife, Margaret Lowe Brittenham, and his devoted daughters: Kimberly Brittenham King and husband Lee of Greenville, NC, and April Brittenham Dew and husband Thomas of Grifton, NC. He was also the proud grandfather to Danielle King (Diana) of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Bristol Reagan Dew of Grifton, NC, and Mary Lee Dew Ladezma (Alan) of Fuguay Varina, NC. He was further blessed with a great-granddaughter, Alexis Chumley.
His surviving siblings include his sister, Lorraine Brittenham Harrell, and husband Charles of Ahoskie, and his brother, Cumin Brittenham, and wife Nancy of Aulander. Nephews Jason Harrell, Jeremy Brittenham (Kim), Justin Brittenham, and Joshua Brittenham also mourn his passing.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in
Ahoskie, NC. A celebration of Thomas's life will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Mercy Church in
Ahoskie, NC with Rev. Ray Faircloth, Sr. officiating. A private family burial will follow. Pallbearers will include Jason Harrell, Jeremy Brittenham, Justin Brittenham, Joshua Brittenham, Gary Hurdle, Chip Clarke, and Charles Hurdle.
