Thomas McDonnell Obituary

Thomas Joseph McDonnell, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, peacefully passed away after a brief illness on Thursday July 24th surrounded by loving family.

Tom was born in 1950, in Fort Dodge, IA to Paul and Marie McDonnell. He attended school at Fort Dodge St Edmonds High School, where he was an avid participant in the Lancers Drum Corps. He then attended the University of Iowa, where he participated in the Iowa Hawkeye Marching Band and solidified his passion for the university.

Tom met the love of his life and married Maryellen in 1977. Together they raised son, Greg and daughter, Tamara in Humboldt, IA. Tom's lifelong dream was to be an Industrial Material Packaging Salesman, which he fulfilled while working at Chantland in Humboldt, IA and Inpak Systems in Sun Prairie, WI. He began retirement training in Shakopee, MN.

Tom got out on the golf course every chance he could get with friends, co-workers and family. He often went out by himself and met a new friend. He loved exploring new courses but would always try to hit a bucket of balls and chip and putt before each round.

Tom will always be remembered for his kindness, laughter, love of family and deep appreciation of his community.

Tom is survived by his wife, Maryellen; two children, Greg McDonnell and Tammy (Ben) Graf; grandkids, Bridger, Owen, Carver, August and Evan; and extended family members and friends.

His mother and father, Paul and Marie McDonnell, preceded him in death.

A Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family in Shakopee, MN in the fall.
