Timothy R. Mounts left this world to be with his loving Lord and Savior on July 2, 2025 after a courageous battle with muscular dystrophy and COPD.
He was born to Robert and Ona Mounts on April 25th, 1957 in Fergus Falls and was blessed with “bonus parents,” Neola and Elvin Risbrudt of Dalton.
Tim attended school in Dalton through 6th grade at which time he transferred to Evansville. He was confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dalton in 1965 and graduated from Evansville High School in 1969.
Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army National Guard where he went on to serve our country for six years. He was a member of both the Dalton and Ashby American Legions for over 40 cumulative years. In high school, Tim was active in FFA (Future Farmers of America) where he was named the Minnesota Star Farmer Award and went on to receive the National American Farmer Award.
In 1970, Tim enrolled at the Fergus Falls Community College while continuing to farm near Dalton with Elvin and Noble Risbrudt. At the early age of five or six, Tim declared that he was going to be a farmer. As a child, he helped with chores and eventually the field work. This continued throughout high school and college
In 1972, Tim fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams of becoming a dairy farmer. He loved his cows and most everything that pertained to farming. Spring was Tim’s favorite season because it was a sign of warmer weather and new life. He especially loved spring field work because he could smell the Earth through the fresh turned soil.
After dating for six years, Tim married Deanna Lindquist on October 20th, 1973 at Christina Lake Lutheran Church in Melby. Tim and Deanna were blessed with two daughters, Christa and Lisa.
Tim continued following this dream of farming until 2006 when his health began to deteriorate to a point where continuing was no longer viable. The pain associated with his health challenges paled in comparison to the pain of selling his cows and walking out of the barn for the very last time.
Tim and Deanna continued to live on the family farm until Tim’s passing. They enjoyed every aspect of “farm life” as nature served as a constant reminder of the miracles, beauty, and goodness of their God. Tim loved and admired all of God’s creation and especially enjoyed keeping close track of it including his pets, wildlife, plants, crops, trees, lakes, and even sloughs. He cared deeply about the environment.
In 2007, Tim began working part-time for his son-in-law Trever Schlosser at JC’s Grocery Store in Ashby. He enjoyed cutting meat and had many good laughs in the meat room with his co-workers and customers. Tim loved a good joke and did a good job of dishing it out. In his retirement, Tim also proudly served on both the St. Olaf Township Town Board for over 25 years and the Dalton Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years. He and Deanna were members of Kvam Free Lutheran Church of rural Dalton.
Anyone who knew Tim knew that family meant everything to him. He valued nothing more than his family. “Family isn’t an important thing, it’s everything.” Spending time with family was his favorite pastime—especially at the Minnesota State Fair. He treasured his daughters and the grandchildren they blessed him and Deanna with. In October of 2023, the couple proudly celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family by their sides. Tim believed that his greatest legacy was his precious family.
Tim is survived by his wife and best friend, Deanna, two daughters Christa (Trever) Schlosser of Dalton and Lisa (Paul) DeKrey of Ashby, three grandchildren: Jacey Schlosser of Glenwood, Cailey Schlosser of Moorhead, and Lachlan DeKrey of Ashby, and special pet companions Kiki and Delta.
A memorial service for Tim Mounts will be held on Tuesday July 15 at 11:00 am at the Zion-Sarpsborg Free Lutheran Church in Dalton, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will follow the service at the church followed by committal at the St. Olaf Cemetery in rural Dalton. The family kindly requests casual attire at both the service and burial. Memorials are preferred to either the Ashby FFA or Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church’s youth program—a program that Tim came to know and love at the Great Minnesota Get-Together.
