Mr. Thomas Jay (Tommy) Congleton, 82, of Meadowbrook Road, Richmond, Kentucky, husband of Darnetta Wells Congleton for 62 years, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
Tommy was born in Moberly, Kentucky on June 8, 1943, to the late Roy Marcum and Geneva Tevis Congleton. He was a member of Flatwoods Christian Church where he served as a deacon. Tommy owned and operated Congleton Oil Sunoco Company for approximately 25 years. Following the sale of Congleton Oil, Tommy shifted his focus to farming full-time. He was a landowner and loved his farming operation, RRR Farms.
Tommy was one of the founders and initial president of the East Madison County Ruritan Club. He helped form the Waco Fire Department and was a founding sponsor of the Richmond American Legion baseball team. He also served as a director for the National City Bank, formerly known as the Waco Bank and the Richmond Bank. Despite his time on the farm and his extensive community involvement, Tommy still found time for his favorite hobbies – fishing and golfing.
Survivors include his wife and sons, Rick (Wendy) Congleton and Rob (Kathy) Congleton; daughter, Renee (Frank) Skipworth; seven grandchildren, Kate Congleton, Kyle (Jenna) Congleton, Kristin Congleton, Taylor (Mitchell) Golden, Brett (Sarah) Congleton, Lauren (Chris) Minter, and Dwight Carter Skipworth; four great grandchildren, Kayden, Emersyn, Kamiyah, and Kyle Wells; sister, Betty (Jesse) Ward; sister in law, Donna Congleton; brothers in law, Dean Wells, Darrell (Wanda) Wells; sister in law, Martha Wells; and a host of nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Congleton, John (Sally) Congleton, and Roy (Tib) Congleton.
A celebration of Tommy Congleton's life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at The Flatwoods Christian Church, 263 College Hill Road, Waco, with Dr. Charles E. Brown, officiating. A private family burial will be held in the Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday at The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street.
Pallbearers will be Rick Congleton, Rob Congleton, Frank Skipworth, Kyle Wells Congleton, Brett Thomas Congleton, and Dwight Carter Skipworth.
