Tommy Hayes Obituary

Tommy Hayes, 80 of Herrick, Illinois died Sunday, June 22, 2025 at 2:10 PM at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham, Illinois. Funeral Services will be Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 10:00 AM in Herrick Baptist Church, Herrick, Illinois with Pastor Jay Huddleston officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, June 27, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, also in Herrick Baptist Church. Burial will be in Myers Cemetery, Herrick Township, Shelby County, Illinois. Memorials in honor of Tommy may be made to Herrick Baptist Church.
Tommy Hayes was born Monday, December 18, 1944 the son of Lloyd Horatio and Evalena Dell (maiden name Whitten) Hayes. He grew up in Herrick, Illinois attending Herrick Elementary School and Herrick High School where he graduated with the Class of 1962. In his youth, Tommy was a Page Boy for Senator Eberspacher and later attended Sparks Business College and St. Louis Computer School, where he received certificates from both. Tommy Lloyd Hayes married Mary Katherine Warner on April 18, 1964 in Ramsey Baptist Church. He was a Licensed Insurance and Real Estate Agent/Owner, primarily associated with Shelbyville Mutual Insurance Company. Tommy was extremely active in the Herrick community and contributed to it by building a gas station when it was without. The Herrick Fast Stop, LLC was constructed in 2000, and he and Mary ran it for nine years with his daughters and grandchildren helping out. Tommy was also a Herrick Volunteer Fire Fighter, Shelby County Board Chairman, and car dealer. His memberships included the Masonic Lodge, Lions Club, and Herrick Baptist Church.
Tommy Hayes is survived by his Wife: Mary Hayes; Daughters: Michelle Hayes, Melanie Meek (Jeff), Melissa Meek (Bill), all of Herrick, Illinois and Whitney Love (William) of Effingham, Illinois; eleven Grandchildren: Patrick Mays of Herrick,
Kaleb Mays (Raye) of Shelbyville, Chase Meek (Brittany) of Columbus Grove, Ohio, Dylan Meek (Karlee) of Harristown, Jacob Mays (Jaycie) of Florida, Chloe Meek of Cowden, Cooper Meek and Claire Meek, both of Herrick, Olivia Durbin of Herrick, Liam Love and Ollie Love, both of Effingham; twelve Great-Grandchildren: Makenzi, Kirra, and Colt Meek; Eden, Griffin, Iverson, Axton, and Fallyn Mays; Mason and Maddox Meek; and Lincoln and Mary Ann Daniels. He is preceded in death by his Parents, Sister: Norma Corley, Sister in infancy: Marva Jean; and Granddaughter: Shoshana Meek.
