Born in Flushing Queens, NY, she moved to Saddle Brook and attended Lodi HS where she met her husband Frank Marut (dec) of Elmwood park, and her best friend of 70 years, Sandra Pizzuro (dec).
Valerie was a registered nurse, (RN) who trained at Paterson General, and worked at Barnert Memorial Hospital in Paterson, NJ while she earned her BSN from Jersey City State College. She then became a dedicated Public Health nurse for almost 40 years; first for the Borough of Elmwood Park,NJ then for the Borough of Lodi, NJ before retiring in her early 70's.
Valerie enjoyed traveling the world, learning about new cultures and recreating their culinary dishes.The beautiful island of Aruba had her heart and she made many long time friends during her visits.
An avid crocheter and knitter, she lovingly made blankets & sweaters for her family and friends as well as crate liners for animal shelters, caps for cancer patients, and winter hats and scarves for the ESL students at Parsippany High School.
She will always be remembered for her youthful glow, her favorite color purple and African violets.
Beloved wife of the late Frank Marut, Loving mother of Elisabeth, Melissa and William. Adoring aunt and guardian of Charles Brown (dec). Proud grandmother of Carly, Cassie, Billy, Jack, Robert and Allison. Dear great-grandmother of Zoey and Harper.

My heart goes out to all of you.
Our mothers were best friends and your Mom was an important part of my life. Yes even a flower girl in Frank and Val's wedding it was a lifetime ago. Val will always be a part of my heart along with you all. I am always here for you all. Love Laura and Lowell Harris
