Vaughn "Flash" Bolyard, age 61, a resident of Philippi, WV., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, in the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital of Morgantown with his family by his side. He had been in declining health however his passing was unexpected.
He was born on December 8, 1963, at his family home in Philippi, a son to the late Edmund Bolyard and Gladys Jean (Foster) Bolyard.
On February 20, 1980, he joined hands in marriage to the former Tina Marie Atwell who preceded him in death on August 9, 2013.
Vaughn leaves behind one son; Timothy Vaughn and, wife Mindy Bolyard of Belington, daughter; Betina Jean Montgomery. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren, Trinity Montgomery, Elisha Montgomery, Leah Young, Ariana Bolyard, and Joshua Bolyard, great grandchild; Faith Evans, and one great grandchild on the way, brothers; Francis Bolyard of Elkins, Mark Bolyard of Moatsville, and Doug Bolyard of Belington, several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Preceding him death besides his parents were two brothers: Leon and Larry Bolyard.
He attended the schools of Barbour County. Flash worked at Kingsford Charcoal Company for over forty years, he worked in all departments there lastly, he moved trucks around the plant, he had to retire due to his health. He was an active member of the Barbour County Sheriff's Deputy Reserves program where his last position was Chief, he listened to the scanner often to keep up with the local Police Departments. Flash had a passion to ride his four-wheeler through the hills of Barbour County, especially around the Arden area. He wasn't a shy person, he would talk to anyone, never meet a stranger. He loved to check out his Facebook to see what was going on in the woods. Vaughn loved to attend the races at the Elkins Speedway in Kernes every weekend during the race season. Flash had a heart of gold, and one could say it was bigger than him. Vaughns memory will be forever etched in all hearts who knew and loved this faithful, honest, and hard-working man. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Kittle Family Funeral Home 265 Beech Ave. Philippi from 4 pm until 8pm, and again on Sunday, July 20, 2025, from 8 am until 2pm at which time a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Randall Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in Tacy Crossroads Cemetery where he will be laid to rest by his beloved wife Tina. The Kittle Family Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
