Vera Helen Krieger, 94, of Burlington died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Born Jan. 6, 1931, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edwin and Helen Reinecke. She met her future husband Floyd James Krieger at the roller-skating rink and they were later married on April 10, 1955, at Salem Lutheran Church. Vera was born in the city, married a farmer and never left the farm. He preceded her in death on October 6, 2024.
Vera worked for Van's Lunchbox, National Research Bureau and Burlington Federal Savings and Loan. But the best job of all was being a farm wife and mother to four kids.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and Peace Lutheran Church.
She served as the longtime treasurer for the Women's Group and was a quilter and historian for Peace Lutheran Church. She loved playing softball and basketball in her youth and golfing and bowling later in life. She took great pleasure in playing cards, dominos and croquet with her grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her four children, Steven (Reta) Krieger of Burlington, Jeffrey (Linda) Krieger of Fort Myers, Florida, Linda (Bill) Risenhoover of Bucyrus, Kansas, and David (Marcia) Krieger of West Des Moines; seven grandchildren, Brian (Melissa) Krieger, Deanne (James) Lessard, Dan (Prissilla) Krieger, Jamie Risenhoover, Matthew (Parisa) Risenhoover, Laura (Ben) Lohmeier and Dennis (Jill) Krieger; 15 great-grandchildren, Olivia and Lauren Krieger, Jordan, Lillian, Noah, Zachary and Faith Lessard, Camila, Javier, Ximena Krieger, Cooper Risenhoover, Thomas Lucas, Maren Lohmeier and Isaac Krieger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd, two sisters Cleo and Wilma and brother Edwin "Red."
The funeral service for Vera will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Peace Lutheran Church. Pastor James Zuehls will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church or to the Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
