Verlin Carl Drew, known to all as Carl, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, at the age of 87 in Beaumont, California, where he shared a loving home with his lifelong partner, Monique.
Born and raised in Richmond, Indiana, Carl met Monique in 1958 and married her on June 27, 1959. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. They raised three daughters - Christine, Jackie, and Carla - and later, Carl helped raise two stepsons, Robert and Ricky Anderson, as his own. He also welcomed another daughter, Jessica, into the family. He was a devoted and deeply loving father who never wavered in his support, patience, and presence.
After high school, Carl enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served for more than three years. A true self-starter, Carl returned to civilian life determined to forge his own path. With grit, determination, and little formal training, he founded Vern's Precision Form Grinding - a small tool and die company that became widely respected for its precision and reliability. Over the years, Carl built strong, personal relationships with his customers and employees alike. He ran the business with integrity and pride, working well into his seventies before retiring at age 73.
Outside of work, Carl found joy in the quiet and the outdoors. He loved spending time at his vacation home in Big Bear, California, tending to it with care and pride. He also enjoyed trap shooting and took frequent hunting trips to Wyoming - pursuits that brought him both peace and excitement.
Above all, Carl loved his family. He was a proud grandfather to Nathan, Josh, David, Nicole, Tim, and Brandon, and a great-grandfather to fourteen great-grandchildren - each of whom brought him endless pride and joy. Carl is also survived by his brother, Ronald Drew. He was preceded in death by his daughter Christine, whom he loved dearly.
Carl will be remembered for his honesty, strength, and quiet generosity. He was a steady presence in the lives of those who knew him - always dependable, always kind, and never one to seek attention or praise. He lived with purpose and leaves behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, and love.
A service honoring Carl's life will be held at Memory Garden in Brea, California, on June 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Carl by supporting a local small business or offering a helping hand to someone in need - just as he so often did. Optionally, the family would be honored if you would consider making a donation in Carl's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.

I knew Carl well over 50 years. We shared many things together, work, ocean fishing beers occasionally. His Yodeling is only surpassed by Sourdough Slim which a lot of people never knew. His family was always #1 priority in his life. He was a person with integrity, honesty, and always hard working. He will definitely be missed and remembered.
RIP Carl Drew.

Uncle Carl was a very sweet kind man. He always had a smile and would encourage me with his sincere words of wisdom. I looked forward to those times he would come to Indiana to visit. Uncle Carl, you were one of the best!!

I always looked forward to visiting with Uncle Carl when he would come back to his hometown of Richmond IN to see his family. I was a young mom back then with a family of my own and he always offered words of encouragement to me. Uncle Carl will be greatly missed. I extend prayers and love to his daughters, grandchildren and lifelong partner, Monique.
