On July 6, 2025, Verna Joan Coffey passed on to her Heavenly Home to be with God. She was born on August 10, 1931, in Greenup County, Kentucky. The family moved to Ray, Ohio where she met and married her husband, Winford Coffey on April 15, 1955. They eventually moved to North Fairfield, Ohio where she remained until going to a nursing home.
She was a schoolteacher for several years. She started teaching in a one-room schoolhouse. She loved working in the garden, taking care of her many flowers, and reading Jesse Stuart books.
She leaves behind her children: Pam Shearer, Steve Coffey and Teresa Coffey, sister, Georgie Smith, brother, Allie Skaggs, grandchildren, Kevin Shearer and Kristina Shearer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Winford Coffey, son, Stanley Coffey, son-in-law, Doug Shearer, parents, Edgar and Sadie Skaggs, brothers, Vernon Skaggs, Lewis Skaggs, Herbie Skaggs and Edwin Skaggs.
A graveside service for family and friends, will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the North Fairfield Cemetery on St Rt 162, North Fairfield, OH 44855. Eastman Funeral Home, Greenwich assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.eastmanfuneralhome.com.
