Vernon Shine Moats, 80, of Aurora, WV, passed away on February 11, 2025, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on April 9, 1944, he was the son of the late Cyrus William and Edna Marie (Simmons) Moats.
Vern was a graduate of Aurora High School. He spent 40 years working for and retired from Wood Products, Inc. in Oakland, MD. He also owned and operated with his brother Parker, V&P Hardwood. Not only was he an accomplished wood maker, he was also a skilled hunter and fisherman, as his favorite past was time was deer hunting.
He is survived by his brothers Parker Moats Sr. and wife Corinna, Freddy Moats, Harry Moats and wife Marsha; nieces and nephews, Candy Ritchey, Tommy Ritchey, and Parker Moats Jr.; great nieces and nephews, Mercedes White, Jason Moats, Jr., Jordan Moats, Tiffany Miller, Justin Moats, Danika Moats, Jasana Moats; and many great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers; Bill, Darvin, Keith, Lawrence, Milford and Doyal Moats, a sister Milly Moats; and nephew, Jason Moats Sr.
Friends will be received on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 4-7 PM, at the Aurora Memorial Building, 24079 George Washington Highway, Aurora, WV. A funeral service held will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 11 AM in the Aurora Memorial Building with Pastor Mark Teets officiating. Interment will follow in the Aurora Cemetery.
