Vernon Shaw was born March 18, 1932 to Charles and Minerva Mills Shaw in Morton, TX. He passed from this life April 13, 2025 at the age of 93. He married Winnie Lucille (Sammie) Riddle on October 6, 1951. He was married to Sammie until her death May 23, 1982. Vernon spent most of his later years with partner Jane Dean until her death January 18, 2021. He was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Morton Tx.
Vernon was know as "Wimpy" by family and friends. He wore many hats throughout his life like dad, grandad, friend, electrician, farmer, dancer, and classic car showman. He worked for Bailey County Electric for 36 years as a lineman and serviceman. He also farmed with both his sons for many years during that time. After retiring, he still managed to help his sons, grandkids, and friends with all their odd wiring jobs. Vernon spent many nights at senior citizen dances, and for someone who suffered a severe leg injury from Polio as a child, that couldn't stop him. He traveled all over Texas for different dancing events. Vernon also loved cars, spent many years at car shows and parades with his show quality cars. In his home, he had a wall to wall showcase to display his ever growing model car collection, and car show trophies. If you knew him you know he never kept any car long, he loved to trade and change often.
Wimpy loved animals and had many beloved pets over the years, too many to name, but you could not visit him without being greeted by a barking dog or two. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sammie; his partner, Jane; his parents; three sisters, Sadie McClendon, Viola Clark and Dorothy Jordan; and four brothers, Charlie Roy Shaw, John Bill Shaw, Fred R. Shaw and Walter Seth Shaw.
He is survived by his sons Terry (wife Susan)of Seminole, Larry (wife Brenda) of Morton, six grandchildren, Casey, Dana, Chelsea, Donya, Les and Lindsey; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be sent to Morton Senior Center, 308 West Taylor, Morton, Texas, 79346 or First Missionary Baptist Church, 102 East Taylor, Morton, Texas 79346.
