Deacon Verron Caldwell, Jr., 81, son of the late Verron Caldwell, Sr. and the late Louvenia Caldwell, was born February 22, 1943 in Leesville, South Carolina. On Friday, December 6, 2024, he went from labor to reward at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, South Carolina.
Deacon Caldwell was educated in the public schools of Lexington County, graduating from Twin City High School in Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina. He later attended Midlands Technical College before enlisting in the United States Army. He joined Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and served as a Deacon. Later, he would join Zion Hill Baptist Church, also serving as a Deacon. He was married to Joyce Lee Caldwell.
In addition to both of his parents, Deacon Caldwell was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruthie Lee Johnson, Vernell Derrick and Bernice Tucker and two brothers, Alonzo Caldwell and Reverend Dr. Johnny P. Caldwell.
Those left to celebrate his life and cherish his memory include: his loving wife, Joyce Caldwell of the home; one sister, Annie Lou Gartmon of Prince Frederick, Maryland; four sisters-in-law, Evelyne Caldwell of Little Mountain, South Carolina, Mary O. (Rufus) Stover of Columbia, South Carolina, Sharon Caldwell of Maryland and Clarenda Kindley of Mountville, South Carolina; brothers-in-law, Stewart D. Suber, Fred D. (Bernice) Suber, both of Mountville, South Carolina, James Tucker of Maryland and Tony Derrick of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; two daughters, Vernesha Payne of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina and LaToya Caldwell (Wayne) Abney of Columbia, South Carolina; eight sons, Craigg (Joyce) Caldwell of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina, Timothy Caldwell of Newberry, South Carolina, Jermaine (Tameka) Caldwell and Vernon (LaShell) Caldwell, III, both of Columbia, South Carolina, Quincy (Katherine) Suber of Mountville, South Carolina, Clifford (Jennifer) Cook of Waterloo, South Carolina, John L. Cook of Cross Hill, South Carolina and Alex F. Cook of Fountain Inn, South Carolina; thirty-eight grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other family members and friends.
