Victor Fye age 85 of Decorah, IA, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Wellington Place in Decorah.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago St., Decorah, IA with Rev. Eric Thiele presiding. Burial will be in the New Oregon Cemetery rural Cresco.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Helms Funeral Home, 306 E. Water St., in Decorah. There will be no visitation before the service on Friday morning at the church.
In Lieu of flowers: Memorials may be made to the family in memory of Vic. They can be sent to Helms Funeral Home, 306 E. Water St., in Decorah.

Victor was born to Marshall and Mary (Voyna) Fye on September 28, 1939. As the oldest of three children, he grew up in Cresco before graduating from Cresco High School in 1958. Throughout those years, he was part of the FFA and raised and sold purebred Hampshire pigs. Victor married Dianne (Otto) Fye on June 12, 1960, at Immanual Lutheran Church in Cresco. Together they had 1 daughter, Julie.
His working career started at Davies Supermarket in Cresco until Victor and Dianne moved to Decorah in 1962 so he could work at Polly Meadows Dairy. In 1967, he started working at Interstate Power, where he continued for the next 38 years until his retirement in 2005.
Victor was very involved in the community. He was on the city council for 18 years, representing the 5th Ward. In 1994, he was elected as the Mayor of Decorah. He served as mayor for 10 years. During this time, Victor and Dianne greeted the King and Queen of Norway at the Decorah airport. They also met the Prince of Norway while he was visiting Decorah after he graduated from college in California. Projects completed while he was mayor included replacing Water Street, adding a 3rd lane to Montgomery Street, replacing the bridge on 5th Ave, and building a new Walmart Supercenter. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club. He was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church and served as an usher and money counter. He enjoyed greeting the people at the church's Nordic Fest dinner. Victor enjoyed starting most mornings with a coffee group at 6 AM. He loved Euchre, Whist, and many other card games. He enjoyed travelling, especially to Hawaii and Alaska, and spending some winters in Arizona. Victor enjoyed camping, square dancing, doing crosswords and word searches, and watching Nascar, Hawkeyes, and the Vikings. He also enjoyed attending many high school sporting events and following his nephews' wrestling careers from high school through the National tournaments.
Victor is survived by his wife, Dianne, his daughter Julie, his brother, Galen (Lavon) Fye, and his sister, Elaine Gaul, sister-in-law. Marlys Dodd and brother-in-law. Wayne Otto, and many nieces and nephews.
Victor was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Fye; his parents, Marshall and Mary Fye; his father-in-law and mother- in-law Vernon Otto and Mercedes (Radke) Otto, brothers-in-law, La Vern Gaul and Delbert Dodd; sister-in-law Carole Otto.
