Virginia May "Ginny" Hopkins left her earthly home in Etna, Maine on May 5, 2025, after 84 years of living in the central Maine area. Virginia was born August 26th, 1940, at home in St. Albans, Maine to Milton and Edith Bubar.
Ginny primarily attended school in Pittsfield, however, graduated from Newport High School in 1958. She married the love of her life, Dale, in 1958 and have celebrated 66 wonderful years of marriage. She and Dale founded the Country Diner where they served homemade meals for several years. She worked with her folks in the Etna Furniture Store most of her life. God completed their family when their daughter, Faith was born. She was the light and love of their lives and went everywhere with them. Ginny accepted the Lord as her savior at a young age. She was a former member of Bangor Baptist Church and most recently Cornerstone Baptist of Exeter. She was active at both, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school for many years. She loved to be in church whenever the doors were open. Ginny and Faith always enjoyed riding the bus with Dale on ball trips and choir trips for Bangor Christian School. She was also a JV cheerleading coach for BCS. Whenever they could, "Nana and Bumpa," loved to travel with the grandkids to events and especially camp. After she and Dale retired, they enjoyed their home, camp, and a little traveling. Faith and Darrell looked after them in their later years and were always there for them.
She was predeceased by her parents, her uncle George Bubar, who was like a father to her, two brothers: Richard and his wife Marion, Clifford and his wife LeEllen.
She is survived by her husband Dale, daughter Faith and her husband Darrell Thompson, grandchildren Brian and Katie Thompson, a brother Weston and his wife Carmela, Kathryn and her husband Eric Marsh, 2 nieces and several nephews and cousins. Ginny also leaves several special friends, Bob and Pam Leavitt and their entire family, Lynn and Penny Porter, Maxine Thompson, all "our BCS kids" and fellow staff members. A very heartfelt thank you to Sharon and Jack Bridges for the cards and notes every week. They meant so much to her and the family.
Visiting hours will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1195 Stetson Road, Exeter, Maine. A funeral service celebrating Ginny's life will follow at 12:00 p.m., Committal will take place at 3:30 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Etna. All who knew and loved Ginny are warmly invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate it if gifts could be sent to Cornerstone Baptist Church for children's ministries.
