Virginia McGhee Obituary

Funeral services for Virginia Yevich McGhee, fondly known as "Miss Ginny," of Jackson's Gap, Ala., will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Radney Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 p.m. with burial at Alexander City City Cemetery immediately following. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Wayne Cowhick will officiate.
Ginny passed away on July 3, 2025, at her home. She was born on November 13, 1939, in Elizabeth, NJ, to Peter and Anna Stanko Yevich of Rahway, NJ.
Ginny was a person of tremendous energy and talent. As owner and teacher at Ginny's School of Dance, she taught ballet, toe, tap, jazz, and tumbling to generations of young girls and boys in Alexander City and the surrounding area. Her classes focused on dance skills but also on discipline, grace, teamwork, balance, coordination, and acceptance. She pursued continuing education throughout her career, earning certifications and membership in the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters, Inc.
After graduating from Rahway High School, Ginny attended Jacksonville State University in Alabama, where she studied elementary education and served as a JSU ballerina. While at Jacksonville, she met and married John William "Billy" McGhee, and the couple soon made their home in his hometown of Alexander City, AL.
In addition to teaching dance and raising four children, Ginny was active in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority for 50 years, enjoyed playing bridge with a close circle of friends, served as a Girl Scout leader, and pursued numerous hobbies. Her embroidery, chocolates, painted shirts, crafts, and "Granny cakes" brightened the days of friends and relatives. She loved hosting family and friends, cooking, traveling, dancing, and making handmade gifts for others.
Ginny is survived by her son Doug (Leslie) McGhee; her daughters Barbara Anne (Ty) Spears and Dell (Darien) St. John; grandchildren Virginia (AJ) Watson, John (Samantha) Spears, Michael Lantz, William Lantz, Andrew McGhee, and Boston McGhee; and her great grandchild, Charlotte Watson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Peter Ronald Yevich; her husband Billy McGhee; and her son, David E. McGhee.
She spent the last 27 years surrounded by her kind and generous neighbors on Bay Pine Island. She loved spending her golden years at beautiful Lake Martin.
