Vonley Stacher Obituary

Vonley Stacher of Plymouth, California, passed away on June 15, 2025, at the age of 93. Von, as he preferred to be called, was born in Millville, California. He moved to Amador County with his mother, father, five brothers, and one sister in the late 1940s. After attending Amador High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Von served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955. Von had good memories of his life as a sailor aboard the USS Bairoko. He was one of a handful of men assigned to decommission the aircraft carrier in San Francisco.
Vonley married Viola May Cook in 1953 in Sutter Creek. After living in several places in the County, they settled in Ione, where they raised their family. Eventually, Von and Viola moved to Plymouth, where they have lived for twenty years. Vonley owned and drove logging trucks throughout his long career. Von was well known as a hardworking and dependable driver who possessed excellent mechanical skills and old-school know-how. He is survived by 16 great-grandchildren, 10 grandchildren, four children, Cathy, Clara, Von, and Paul, and his wife of 71 years, Viola.
