Walter Jay Fendley was born on September 21st, 1928 to parents Sidney and Lona Fendley.
He married Jacqueline Mae Burks on August 28, 1948 in Dallas, Texas. They met at the Methodist church and had been together for 71 years when she passed away in 2019. He died five years later, to the hour, on September 23rd, 2024, at the age of 96.
Walt is survived by two sons; Ronald and wife Laura Fendley, Sid Fendley and wife Janet Norden, grandchildren; Alisa Fendley, Melissa Fendley, and Ron Fendley and wife Teresa, great-grandchildren; Devyn Fendley, Marcus Fendley, and Kirsten Fendley, and three great-great grandchildren.
Walt studied business at SMU and then travelled extensively with his family, living in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and New Mexico while working as a management consultant for Montgomery Wards. He and Jaqueline moved to Roswell in 1960 and to Albuquerque in 1971 where Walt became a top real estate salesman until his retirement in 1990.
An avid Dallas Cowboys fan and golfer, Walt was also a Senior Citizens Olympics table tennis champion. Walt was a charismatic community ambassador and beloved by many in the senior living centers where he spent his final years. He will be remembered for his sharp wit and warm welcoming laugh.
A small service will be held at 1:30pm on Saturday, December 7th at:
