Walter "Buddy" Allen III, age 62, of Elizabeth City, NC, passed on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Sentara Norfolk Heart Hospital. He was born in Pasquotank County on May 5, 1962, to the late Walter Allen, Jr. and Betty Bright Allen.
Buddy's life was marked by an unwavering passion for automobiles and the open road. Known for having "gasoline in his veins," his expertise as an automobile repair mechanic was unparalleled. Whether it was working under the hood or deciphering the complexities of modern vehicles, Buddy had an innate talent for diagnostics and problem-solving. It was often said that if he or anyone took anything apart, he could always put it back together.
One of Buddy's greatest passions was a profound love for racing. The thrill of the track was where he found pure joy. He also cherished quieter moments, casting a line into still waters, indulging in his love of fishing and relaxation.
Buddy is survived by his life partner of twenty years, Linda Talbert; daughter, Janie Lynn Allen; son, William Blake Allen; sisters, Teresa Campbell (Jerry) and Angie Tyler; brother, Randy Allen (Dawn); grandchildren, Cody, Courtney, and Cameron; and great-grandchildren, Elenora and Kaiden Dunn, and Riley Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Buddy was a great friend and a great guy. I met him when I was probably 4 or 5 in 1970 or 71 on Grady Street when he lived down the street from my grandparents. He was a gearhead then too. He had one old gocart engine and axle and would make gocarts from old S&R shopping carts. He would bolt up the engine and axle, make a way to steer it and ride. He could always figure out a way to ride and ride fast. The whole world is suffering a big loss from losing this man. Gonna miss seeing you around. Rest in peace old friend.
