Peter Catalano Obituary

Peter L. Catalano, a longtime resident of Monticello, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 86.

Born August 6, 1939, in the Bronx to the late Peter Catalano and Louise Verdi Collins, he moved as a child to Jeffersonville, where he grew up on his grandparents' farm among a large, close-knit family. Those early years shaped his love of family and hard work, values that guided his entire life.

Peter spent his career in commercial construction, a trade he learned from his uncles and carried with great pride. He was gifted in building and design, known for his meticulous craftsmanship and dedication to maintaining his own home and property. His greatest devotion, however, was to his family. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Peter never hesitated to go out of his way for those he loved and took immense pride in their lives. He loved the New York Yankees, cherished holiday trips to Radio City Music Hall, or simply going to dinner and a movie with Nancy.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy Stapleton Catalano; their children: Jim Catalano (Tracey) of Hurley, Bob Catalano (Andrea) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Christine Vanzo (Joseph) of Brewster; and four grandchildren: Kaitlyn Catalano, Luca Catalano, Grace Vanzo, and Logan Vanzo.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 18 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, September 19 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Monticello, with burial to follow at Cold Spring Cemetery in Cold Spring, NY.
