William Pearson Coffey Sr. was born May 4, 1940 in Somerset, Kentucky. He was the oldest of seven children to the late Carl Pearson and Lillie Mae Cunningham Coffey. He departed this life at the age of 85 on June 8, 2025 at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

William began his education at Dunbar Elementary and he graduated from Somerset High School in Somerset, Kentucky where he was inducted into the National Honors Society. He served briefly in the United States Air Force before graduating from ITT Technical Institute in 1968 earning a Bachelor degree in Field Engineering.

William was married for 15 years to the late Lillie Mae Justice-Coffey. He moved his family to Louisville, Kentucky and later moved his family to Indianapolis, Indiana. William was employed with Indiana Bell (AT&T), where he retired after 30+ years of service. Prior to working at Indiana Bell, he was employed with IBM in Indianapolis, Indiana.

William was baptized at an early age at South Maple Street Baptist Church in Somerset, Kentucky. He was a long-time member of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. William sang with the Male Chorus and participated with the Men's Fellowship. In addition to his involvement at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, he felt it was important to be involved in the community. William was a youth baseball coach and a member of Bell in Action softball team.

William loved spending time with his family and friends but also enjoyed golfing, basketball, baseball, fishing, and bowling. He could spend hours talking about sports. William loved good music and regularly attended live concerts. He socialized at The Triangle Lounge and The Point Nightclub where he was known for his big smile, singing, and contagious laughter. William was very popular with the ladies for his dance moves.

William was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carlton Elbridge Coffey and Carl Cornelius Coffey Sr. He is also preceded in death by his youngest son Nathaniel Eldridge Coffey.

Surviving are his three children: Wilma Coffey-Creighton (William), William P. Coffey Jr. and Suzette A. Coffey-Greene, all of Indianapolis Indiana. Four grandchildren: Carwanda Coffey-Doomes, David Boozer Jr., Latrice Coffey, and Lakita Boozer, all of Indianapolis, Indiana. Eight great-grandchildren: Sin'Cere Coffey, Nas'Cere Coffey, Juelz Coffey, Israel Coffey, Carlita Sanders, Ka'Maria Sanders, Carl'del Sanders, and Lillie-Mae Sanders, all of Indianapolis, Indiana. Two Brothers: Arnold Coffey (Sarah) of Lexington, Kentucky and James Coffey (Laura) of Somerset, Kentucky. Two Sisters: Sue Coffey of Cincinnati, Ohio and Carla Coffey of Northampton, Massachusetts. One special first cousin Marcia Masterson and a host of devoted nephews and nieces; and many other relatives and friends who adored him and will greatly miss his easy-going spirit.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Lavenia & Summers Home for Funerals, 5811 E 38th St, Indianapolis, IN 46218. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
