William R. Cowper, 89, of Surf City passed away at his home on June 2, 2025. Bill was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and formerly of Westchester, PA. Since he was a child, he had visited Long Beach Island. Bill permanently moved to Surf City in 2009.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956-1958 and was a member of the Marine Reilly Raiders, Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps and National Judges Association. Bill was an active member and Past Commodore of the Surf City Yacht Club. He loved sailing and was part of their crew team. He enjoyed dancing too and music. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Exton, PA and Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Beach Haven, NJ where he maintained the grounds and participated in the church activities.
Predeceased by his wife, Helen (2022) and brother, Ken. He is survived by his children, Cynthia Parker (Mark), Timothy Cowper (Arlene), grandchildren Katelynne Cowper, Madeline Parker, Ryan Parker, Timothy Iamurri (Jesssica) and great grandchildren Autumn, Ava, Hailee, Lenyx, Anthony, Bailee, Braiden along with his brother, Robert Cowper.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025 from 12:00 pm-5:00 pm at the Surf City Yacht Club, 339 North 9th St., Surf City, NJ 08008. A Service will begin at 12:10 pm which will include speakers, Commodore Final Salute and Marine Corps Honor Guard.
Arrangements and private cremation were under the direction of Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, corner of 12th & Blvd, Ship Bottom. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Surf City Fire & EMS, 713 Long Beach Blvd, Surf City, NJ 08008.
