William Elton Dobbins Jr, 79, of Greenfield, IN., passed away on July 2nd, 2025. He was born to William E. Dobbins Sr and Edywiss ( Sartin) Dobbins on October 1st, 1945 in Athens, AL.

Bill grew up in Booneville, MS. He served in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968, when he was honorable discharged as a Sergeant. Later in life, he worked for the State of Indiana’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles as an IT manager for 36 years.

He was married in 1967 to Kathleen (Merchant) Dobbins and had two children, Jennifer (Dobbins) Wren and William E. Dobbins III. He loved U.S. History, bass fishing, and camping. He was also a big fan of IU basketball. Bill was known as a pet lover. He adored his childhood Boston Bull Terrier named Bitsy. More recently, he could always be found walking his current dogs; Mickey, Daisy, and Coco.

Bill was devoted to his children and grandchildren’s lives. He always supported them in their band, theater, and choir endeavors. He will be sorely missed.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William E. Dobbins Sr. and Edywiss (Sartin) Dobbins; and his sister, Sue (Dobbins) Barnett,

He is survived his wife, Kathleen (Merchant) Dobbins; his daughter, Jennifer (Dobbins) Wren; his son, William E. Dobbins III; his daughter-in-law, Gerrosse (Lababit) Dobbins; his sister, Mary Alice (Dobbins) Hartsock; his three grandchildren, two nieces, and two nephews.

There will be a private military service to be held at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.

In lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the American Legion Charities or the American Cancer Society.
