William Dunham Obituary

William J. Dunham, 98, of New Orleans, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025. Born on March 9, 1926 in the Irish Channel, Bill was a proud U.S. Army Veteran who served during both World War II and the Korean War.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Fox Dunham, as well as his sisters, Margaret Cooney and Dolores Neeley, and his brother, Roy Dunham. He is survived by his brother, Danny Dunham, and his loving daughter, Rosemary Dunham Arriaga, who is married to Dr. Moises Arriaga. Bill was a devoted grandfather to Rebecca, Moises William (Taylor), and Toby (Kelly), and a proud great-grandfather to Malcolm Dunham. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He held numerous positions including bookkeeping and heating and air conditioning work before starting work at American Cyanamid where retired in 1984 after an over 25-year career including positions as foreman and supervisor.
An avid dancer, Bill was known for a special two-partner jitterbug that he performed at family weddings. He was also known for his impeccable skill in mixing a mean Old Fashioned, a drink he made with precision and care, just as he did with all aspects of his life.
Bill will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy lives on through his daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, who carry his memory in their hearts. Special thanks Peristyle House Old Metairie Garden Two for their exceptional care.
A celebration of Bill's life and mass will be held at Schoen Funeral home on Saturday, January 25, 2025. Visitation 9am to 11 AM. Mass at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Animal Rescue New Orleans.
