William Jones Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 24, 2025.
William P. "Casey" Jones, Jr., age 77, of Missoula, Montana, passed away peacefully in Pauma
Valley, CA on June 25, 2025, with his wife, Julia, by his side.
Born June 29, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland, Casey was the eldest son of William P. Jones and
Kathleen Lee Lears Jones. He grew up in Media, PA and cherished being the big brother of four
sons in his family, leading the way throughout his life with no fear of adventure and an insatiable
thirst for knowledge-always thinking "outside the box." These traits would come to define both
his personal and professional life.
While attending Penn State University, Casey was drafted into the United States Army, where
he honorably served in the 196th Infantry Division in Vietnam and was awarded two purple
hearts. Following his military service, he drifted west into Iowa, where he and his brother Bob
combined forces to earn capital for the purchase of farms, livestock, and semi-trucks. For years
often employed in multiple jobs, including gray iron foundrymen, farm laborers, grain elevator
workers, agriculture fencing contractors, and truckers. "Those boys remind me of the pioneers,"
was the descriptive expression one seasoned farmer often used. The work was always done
with grit, determination, and heart.
Casey eventually dedicated his career to trucking, a profession that perfectly matched his love
of the open road and his dependable nature. Through countless miles and years of service, he
earned the respect of his peers and embodied the strength and reliability that led to the founding
of Jones Brothers Trucking in Missoula, Montana.
Casey found joy in work done well, watching his sons excel, sharing his knowledge and
expertise through his volunteer service on numerous non-profit boards and playing golf-each
pursuit a reflection of his pride, discipline, and love of life. He was a modern-day renaissance
man: a thinker whose knowledge stretched a mile wide, and someone whose wisdom and
experiences made conversation rich, spirited and lively.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Julia, sons Jamie (Nikki) and Chris (Desiree);
grandsons Taylor and Cru; brothers Robert "Bob" (Jill) and Rodger (Dori); sisters-in-law Gloria
Jones and Gina (Sparky) Lapka ; brother-in-law Kevin (Wendy) Andrews; nephews Chris,
Jason, Orion, Steve, Evan, J.J., Joseph, Brennan, Jacob, Jeffrey; nieces Leigh, Theresa,
Taylor, Danielle, Katie, Chanelle, Olivia, Grace as well as many friends and extended family
members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, David, and brother-in-law, Jeff Andrews.
A celebration of Casey's life well lived will be held in Missoula, Montana in September 2025.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Missoula Catholic Schools Foundation, 300
Edith St, Missoula, MT 59801, or a charity of your choosing in Casey's honor.
Casey lived his life with a conviction and a generosity that reached far. His presence was
steadfast, dependable, and full of heart. His legacy lives on in every story told and every lesson
passed along. He will be missed beyond measure and remembered with love.
