William "Bill" Porter, 86, of Asbury, passed away at Grand Meadows on July 8th, 2025.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 12th, 2025 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dubuque. A funeral service will follow visitation at 11:00 am at the church. Entombment will be in Linwood cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion post #6 of Dubuque.
Bill was born on November 5th, 1938, the son of Clarence and Myrtle (Nesler) in Manning, Iowa. The family later moved to Dubuque.
He married the love of his life, Janet Frick on December 19th, 1959 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dubuque. Together they have three children, Steven, Suzanne, and Douglas and they shared 65 wonderful years of love and adventure.
Bill loved his family fully and unconditionally and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved staying active, from hobbies to maintaining his home for his family. He enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden, spending time in his workshop, fishing, and he was the best at grilling. He also loved sitting on the back porch and taking in the sights and sounds of nature.
He was actively involved at Westminster with the property committee, the hospitality team, men's group, and taking on the roles of Deacon & Elder.
After Bill's retirement from John Deere, they moved to Lake Namakagon, in the north woods of Wisconsin. Bill and Janet enjoyed boat rides, hiking, gardening, and many fun summers with their kids and grandkids.
Bill is survived by his three children, Steven (Lynne) Porter of Richardson TX., Suzanne Taylor of Wausau, WI., and Douglas (Jackie) Porter of Phoenix, AZ.; seven grandchildren, Andrew (Amber) Porter, Ryan Porter, Melissa Taylor, Zachary Porter, Lucas Porter, Talon Porter, and Angelica Pinlac; two great grandchildren, Rebecca and Grayson Porter; His Brother, Paul (Carole) Porter; In-law, Jackie Stutz; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; His loving wife, Janet Porter; Brother, John "Jack" Porter; and in-laws Gladys Porter and Jim Stutz.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque and the staff at Grand Meadows for their care and compassion.
