William D. Swetland
Saco
William "Bill" D. Swetland, age 82, of Saco, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at his home.
Bill was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 21, 1943, a son of William and Dorothy (Bourne) Swetland. He received his elementary education in the town of Kennebunk, Maine, and graduated from Kennebunk High School, Class of 1961. Bill continued with his advanced studies at the University of Maine in Orono.
Bill's professional career spanned over 60 years in the insurance industry, culminating with Bill's role as President of Casco Indemnity Company.
Bill was a die-hard Cleveland baseball fan, faithfully following the Indians/Guardians in hopes of seeing a World Series championship victory. His love of baseball extended to coaching youth baseball throughout his adult life. Bill enjoyed playing golf, and was a member at the Dunegrass Golf Club. Bill also loved spending time in his workshop and took great pride in home projects throughout his life. He was also a history buff, and took pleasure in reading about various historical events.
Most of all, Bill loved spending time with friends and family. Throughout his life and travels, people were naturally drawn to his warm, affable nature that made him the life of any gathering. He will be dearly missed by many.
Bill was predeceased by his first wife, JoAnn (St. Ours) Swetland; by his half-brother, Gregory Swetland; and by his step-brother, Rick Newpher.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Scaraville) Swetland of 32 years; by his three children, Jeff Swetland with wife Jennifer, Nicole Burton, and Matthew Swetland; by his five grandchildren, William, Alexandra, Nathaniel, Jack, and Daniel; by his brother, Dudley Swetland with wife Sharron; by his step-brother Brian Newpher; as well as by several nieces and nephews.
Service information will be forthcoming.
