William Duane West, known affectionately as Bill to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home in
Owosso, Michigan, on July 13, 2025. Born on April 4, 1958, in the same town, he was the cherished son of the late William George and Shirley Mae (McKone) West. Bill's kind-hearted spirit and unwavering dedication to his community marked his 67 years of life, leaving behind a legacy of service and love.
A true hero to many, Bill devoted 25 years of his life to protecting and serving others as a Firefighter & Paramedic for the City of Owosso. There, He rose to the rank of captain, an achievement he was extremely proud of. His journey in public service began with the City of Perry as an auxiliary police officer. He later worked for the Perry Fire Department, where he started as a volunteer fireman, and he later extended his expertise as a Paramedic there. Bill's work ethic and bravery were as much a part of him as his warm smile and generous heart.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Bill was a successful entrepreneur, owning West Lawn Maintenance. His business acumen was only matched by his passion for the simpler pleasures in life, such as playing BINGO and seeking treasures at auction sales. Bill's winters were often spent in Arizona, where he enjoyed the warmth and community. He was also an avid and devoted fan of NASCAR and Motocross.
Bill's Christian faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was an active member of the Life In Christ Church, where he not only worshipped but also lived out his faith through acts of service. He eagerly volunteered for Operation Christmas Child, spreading joy and hope to children in need during the holiday season.
His interests were as varied as they were deep. A collector of farm equipment, Bill could speak at length about each piece's history and use. For many years, he raised and showed Registered Duroc pigs, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm as a 4H Leader for the Mud Bog Buckaroo's and LC Wranglers.
Bill's family was the pride of his life and he was his children's and grandchildren's biggest fan. He is survived by his loving spouse of 43 years Lisa, his son Geremy (Peris) West, and his daughter Amanda (Noah) Hardwick. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren Anton, Vada, Lyric, Noelle, Liberty, and Amaya, who will miss their grandfather's stories and wisdom. He also leaves behind his brothers Michael (Faith) West and Chris West.
Described by those who knew him as friendly, wise, and handy. Bill was a quiet man, but made friends easily.
As we say goodbye to Bill, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, service, and the joy of everyday wonders. His spirit will continue to inspire those who walk the paths he once trod in the community he held so dear.
