Wilma Alvena Bailey passed away on July 1, 2025, at the age of 96.
She was born on October 15, 1928, in McKinney, Texas, to Samuel Hall Smith and Willie Jane (Linderman) Smith. She was raised in McKinney and graduated from Princeton High School. It was in her hometown where she met and married the love of her life, Jimmy Lawayne Bailey, in 1948 - beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in love, faith, and family.
Wilma's early working years included a job at the candy kitchen in McKinney, where she brought sweetness to more than just confections. She later used her talents as a seamstress and served with dedication at Princeton ISD, maintaining facilities and taking pride in her work.
At the age of 12, Wilma accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and her faith remained the cornerstone of her life. Her days were filled with praise and devotion, and she was a shining example of Christian love and generosity. Her home was always open to others, and she lovingly cared for generations of children - her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even the neighbors' children, all of whom found comfort and joy in her presence.
Wilma was a giving woman, known for her warm heart, unwavering faith, and deep devotion to her family. Her legacy is one of kindness, strength, and a life lived fully in service to Christ and others.
She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Holmes and husband, Johnny of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Waynette Stone and husband, Paul of McKinney, Texas; son, Gary Bailey and wife, Debbie of Louisiana; grandchildren, Christy, Steven Scott, Kevin, Keri, Teri, Joshua, John, Tracy, Alisha, Brianca, Jayne, Jimmy and Rachelle; nineteen great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Jimmy Bailey; daughter, Sherry Minchew; grandson; Randy Parker, and parents, Samuel Hall and Willie Jane Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. Following the service, a procession will make its way to Wilson Chapel Cemetery for a committal service, 100 Chapel Lane, McKinney, Texas 75069.
