Wilma Jean (Wilds) Knight, 93, died Friday April 11, 2025, at Lexington Country Place, Lexington, Kentucky. She was born March 1, 1932, in Burgin (Mercer County) Kentucky to the late Robert Thomas Wilds and Naomi (Harrell) Wilds. Wilma graduated from Burgin High School in 1950. She attended Transylvania University from 1950 to 1952, where she was a member of the Chi Chapter of Chi Omega. She completed her Medical Technology internship at Mercy Hospital in Ohio. She had a long and fulfilling career as a Medical Technologist in the laboratory at Lexington Clinic on South Broadway in Lexington Kentucky.
Wilma married Maurice Knight on December 5, 1952. They were married for 54 years at his passing in 2007. She is survived by her son David Gregory (Toni) Knight of Lexington; daughter Carolyn Leigh Steffen of Georgetown; five grandchildren: Rachel Erin Knight, LiAnna Grace Steffen, Lindsey Meng Ji Steffen, John Mitchell Steffen, Olivia Corinne Steffen; and two sisters Ann Lindsey and Shirley Donald of Texas. Two daughters, Karen Lynn Knight and Kimberly Jean Knight, and a brother Robert Thomas (Jack) Wilds III preceded her in death.
Services will be held at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home 3421 Harrodsburg Rd, Lexington KY on Monday April 21st. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by the memorial service. A private graveside service will follow for family members at Springhill Cemetery in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. The service will be conducted by her minister Ray Houser of Eastland Church of God.
