Sharon Griffis Obituary

Sharon S. "Sherry" Griffis, 82, Kentland, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

She was born Feb. 8, 1943, in Lafayette, to James P. and Lucille M. (Morin) Griffis.

Sherry was the youngest of five Griffis children. Her family operated The Dream Movie Theater in Fowler before moving to Boswell in 1944 to operate the Boswell Theatre. She graduated from Boswell High School in 1961 before attending classes at Purdue. After leaving Purdue, Sherry became a legal secretary, briefly in Chicago and for the rest of her career in Anchorage, until her retirement in 2008. Sherry moved back to Indiana to be near family.

Sherry was always the life of the party. She loved sharing funny stories and visiting with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, hosting Kentucky Derby parties, reading and pet sitting, but she was best known for her love of dogs and especially Mick and Maggie, her longtime best friends.

She is survived by her sister, Patricia Barce, Indianapolis; a sister-in-law, Arlyne Griffis, Las Vegas; and 20 nieces and nephews.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Joanne Diedam and Janet Murphy; a brother, John "Jack" Griffis; and four nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon CST on Saturday, Aug. 9 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 409 E. Allen Street, Kentland, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at noon CST.
