SULLIVAN - Martin W. "Marty" Harbaugh, 68, of Sullivan passed away 9:25 p.m. Saturday (July 19, 2025) after a short battle with lung cancer.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 24, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to The Little Theatre On The Square or to the Sullivan AMBUCs.
Marty was born on April, 1, 1957, in Tuscola, the son of Max Harbaugh and Myrle (Maxwell) Blackburn. He grew up in Newman and graduated from Southeastern Illinois College. He married Lori (Kutz) Best on Sept. 23, 2000, in Sullivan; she survives.
Marty spent his career with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, working at Hidden Springs, Walnut Point, Eagle Creek and Wolf Creek. After a brief retirement, he joined Kaskaskia Valley Animal Hospital, where he loved caring for the animals. Following his work there, Marty fully retired and found a new passion in acting. In the subsequent years, he appeared in numerous productions; loving the family that he nurtured there.
Marty is survived by his mother, Myrle Blackburn of Lincoln, Neb.; wife, Lori Harbaugh of Sullivan; brother, Mathew (Beth) Harbaugh of Hume; and sister, Myrna Ingalls of Lincoln, Neb. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Marty was preceded in death by his father and one niece, Emily Harbaugh.
