Robert Delmotte Obituary

GEORGETOWN - Robert Delmotte, a dedicated educator and beloved community leader, passed away on April 19, 2025, at Goldwater Care Nursing Home, at the age of 83, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on Oct. 18, 1941, in Danville, to Arthur and Mildred (Fowler) Delmotte, he married the love of his life, Norma "Jeannie" Ellis, on June 10, 1961, and they enjoyed each other's company until her passing on March 26, 2023.

Robert evolved from an enthusiastic teacher into a revered figure in the Georgetown Ridge Farm school district, where he left an indelible mark on countless students' lives.

Robert embarked on his career as an eighth-grade history teacher, igniting a passion for education that led to his subsequent roles as principal of various schools within the district at Georgetown Ridge Farm. His commitment to educational excellence earned him the respect of faculty, students and parents alike. Later, he took on the esteemed position of superintendent of schools for Georgetown Ridge Farm, further showcasing his leadership and dedication to improving educational standards. Following his tenure in this role, Robert transitioned into administrator of VASE/VOTEC, demonstrating a continual devotion to fostering learning environments for students. With a profound academic background, Robert held a specialist's degree in education, just shy of attaining a doctorate. This foundation allowed him to influence many through his innovative approaches to teaching and management.

Outside of his professional achievements, Robert had a rich personal life. He cherished his family deeply, leaving behind his daughters, Debbie (Allan) Hall, Stephanie (Larry) Geary, Bobbie (Craig) Rushing, Jennifer (Jeremy) Litz and Abby (David) Boudreaux. He also cherished his role as a grandfather to Clarissa, Baylea, Callan, Riley, Elijah, Jake, Luke, Nicholas, Nathan, Braelynn and Lincoln, alongside his great-grandchildren, Gemma and Dexter. Robert is also survived by his sister, Carol (Louie) Ingram.

Robert was predeceased by his wife, Norma Jeannie Ellis, who was a cherished part of his life, and his parents, Arthur Demotte and Mildred (Fowler) Demotte. He also mourned the loss of his son-in-law, Brian Renfrew, whose absence was felt deeply within the family.

In addition to his professional endeavors and love for family, Robert had a wealth of interests. He found great joy in movies, reading and supporting the UI football team, which reflected his vibrant personality and love for life.
