Sammy Nix Allen

December 15, 1944 - June 29, 2025

Sammy Nix Allen, born in Lake City, Florida, later residing in Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on June 29, 2025. She was a devoted wife to J.D. Allen for over 50 years and a loving mother to her blended family.

Sammy earned an Associate Degree in Advertising & Design Photography with honors from Central Virginia Community College and had a successful career as an independent photographic artist and Sales Manager at Leggett's and Belk for 30 years.

Survived by her children: Cindy Murphree Gladden (Ricky Gladden), Steve Murphree (Kathy Murphree), Robert Garbee (Cherie Garbee), Jeff Allen (Susan Metz), Joey Allen (Kay Allen), and Angela Allen Hendricks (Jeff Crickenberger); grandchildren: Dawson Gladden, Misty Murphree, Steven Murphree (Katherine Murphee), Dianna Jarrells, Heather Nichole Garbee, Jonah Garbee, Anna Allen, Suzanne Hands (Jordan Hands), Samantha Allen, Taylor Hendricks (Kristen Hendricks) and Autumn Hendricks; and brothers Ronnie Nix and Roy Nix.

A celebration of her life will be held on July 12, 2025, at Timberlake Church, Lynchburg, VA. starting with visitation at 10 a.m. with the service to follow at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Timberlake Church, Blue Ridge Photographic Arts Society, and the Lynchburg Humane Society. Heritage Funeral Services and Crematory is responsible for the funeral arrangements.
