Kathleen Spitzer Obituary

Kathleen O'Brien Spitzer

September 10, 1932 - July 8, 2025

Kathleen (Kate) O'Brien Spitzer, a vibrant soul known for her humor, positivity, and adventurous spirit, passed away on July 8, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on September 10, 1932 to Dr. David W. O'Brien and Mary Rose O'Brien, Kate lived a life filled with joy, friendship, and a deep devotion to her family and faith. Kate's zest for life was evident in everything she did. She was renowned for her hilarious (and sometimes repetitive) stories and her unwavering positivity, always ready for whatever adventure came her way. A master of organization, she meticulously kept checklists for everything from new restaurants to try and TV show episodes to catch, to the remaining contestants on Dancing with the Stars.

Kate spent many fulfilling years working at Provident Insurance and ultimately Cigna, where she not only was a top performer but also forged lifelong friendships and left a lasting impression on countless colleagues. Her infectious laughter and optimistic outlook brightened every workplace she graced. A devout lifelong Catholic, Kate was a dedicated parishioner of St. Henry Catholic Church in Nashville. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength and comfort especially through times of loss.

Kate was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marcus Burke (Bud), and her cherished children, Diane, David, and Marcus. She also mourned the loss of her sisters, Mary Rose Sharkey, twin sister Eileen (Eil) O'Brien, Anne Tompkins, and Constance (Conkie) Cathell, and her brothers, David, Joseph (Joe), and William (Bill). She is survived by her loving sister, Patricia (Pat) Taylor, and her devoted children, Katie Dunn (Taylor), Debbie Lowry, and Thom Spitzer (Tiffany).

Kate's legacy also lives on through her 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life.

Kate's vibrant spirit, boundless energy, and loving heart will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A private family memorial mass will be held at St. Henry Catholic Church.
