May 16, 1923 - July 14, 2025
Viola Cafano Cuomo, age 102, of Hamden, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, at Hamden Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She was the beloved wife for 75 years to the late Anthony L. Cuomo.
A devoted and loving mother, Viola is survived by her daughters, Audrey (Louis) Mascola of East Haddam and Lori (James) Earley of Summerville, South Carolina. She was a cherished grandmother to Marc (Kristin) Mascola of Trumbull and Shelley (John) Candler of East Haddam, and a proud great-grandmother to Marc, Madison, Mason, and Maggie Mascola, and Julianne and Jake Giordano.
Born in Hamden on May 16, 1923, Viola was the daughter of the late Peter and Rose Nista Cafano. She was predeceased by her siblings, Edith Lotto, Angelina Barbuto, George Cafano and Peter Cafano, Jr.
Viola worked faithfully alongside her husband, Anthony, in the family business, Cuomo's Television & Antenna Sales and Service, where her dedication and hard work helped build a trusted name in the community.
In retirement, Viola embraced life's simple joys. She loved playing golf, going to bingo with friends and family, and spending winters in Florida with Anthony-creating memories full of sunshine, laughter, and companionship. She will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to family, her warm and generous spirit, her exceptional cooking skills and her zest for life.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank-you to the wonderful nurses and staff at Hamden Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

I just heard of Viola´s passing yesterday when I was visiting my aunt at Hamden Health Care Center and I wanted to send my thoughts and prayers to her family. I met Viola 2 summers ago when she was roommates with my aunt and she was always so humble and gracious and adored having company. I always peeked in on her in her newest room 2 doors down just to say hello and was fortunate enough to meet her daughter and husband from out of state. God Bless this woman for 102 magical years and may all those who knew this lady take comfort in the Lord´s promise of eternal life

Please except my heartfelt condolences for the passing of Viola.
I met her when I was visiting my mom in the dementia unit at Hamden Rehabilitation. I would walk by her room to get to my mom´s unit. One day I stopped in to say hello and from then on it was a daily visit after spending the day with my mom. She was always meticulously dressed and I loved all her scarfs. She was such a happy person with many stories and she always spoke about her family. It was a pleasure speaking with her. She reminded me of my mom who at the time was unable to speak. Please know that your mom was truly a blessing and will be missed.
