William Beckwith Obituary

William Russell Beckwith

May 28, 1942 - July 23, 2025

William Russell Beckwith (Bill) was born in Newark, N.Y. on May 28, 1942, and passed away on July 23, 2025, in his home beside Owasco Lake. In Klosters, CH and at "the lake" in Auburn, N.Y., Bill brought joy and harmony to many.

As a milk man, tech entrepreneur, real estate developer, movie producer, restauranteur and humorist, he lived generously. He was heavily involved in computers at their inception, created a computer sales/leasing business, and published the first computer magazine for Kids in 1984, Digit. Bill produced a race car film starring Paul Newman and was a steward for the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Bill's family includes, brother, James Beckwith (Sidney); sisters, Joan Braffet (Mickey) and Sue Dewis (Lester); and several nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews! He had many wonderful and caring friends. His wisdom, humor, and love of music will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Owasco Watershed Lake Association (OWLA). Please visit www.Langhamfuneralhomellc.com to leave a condolence.

My sincere condolences! ! ! !
Bill was a remarkable man with a remarkable family! I always loved being around when the family all got together. You could really feel the love in the air! I had the pleasure of helping Bill in his last days. He always was a thankful and appreciative man! He definitely will be missed.

Loved it when Bill played his ukulele, and sang ever so slightly off-key at parties in Klosters.

I was sorry to learn that my former classmate had passed away. Bill was in the class of 1960 when we met at Auburn
East High School. He subsequently transferred before graduation, but
always renewed friendships during summers at Burtis Point. Always fun to be with and a true gentleman. May God bless his family and friends in this time of sorrow.

Bill will be missed by many, but none more than the Cheroutes Family from Colorado, Dennis, the late Betsy, Cathy, and Elizabeth. Truely, Bill was a beloved part of our family for over six decades. Dennis Cheroutes
