George Coffman Obituary

George William Coffman

George William Coffman, age 92, was born to Wayne and Ethel Coffman in Gary, Indiana. He was a graduate of East Gary Edison in 1950. George proudly served his country in the United States Army at Fort Riley Kansas, earning the rank of Corporal before being discharged to finish his service in the Army Reserve. George met Darlyne Andrews while vacationing in Minnesota and they married in 1953, spending 72 loving years together. He worked at US Steel Sheet and Tin for 36 years, before retiring to run his business, Instant Road Repair, full-time. He was a proud lifelong resident of East Gary/Lake Station until he and Darlyne moved to Rittenhouse in Portage in 2018. George enjoyed working on his old cars, hunting and fishing whenever he could.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Darlyne; his three children, Walter (fiancée Angel) Coffman of Valparaiso, Nancy (David) Kadish of Chesterton and Ronald (Donna) Coffman of Portage; grandchildren, Charessa (Greg) Linman, Anthony (Melissa) Coffman, Robert (Nikkie) Coffman, Kemi Coffman, Alex (Stephanie) Kadish, Julie Kadish, Kristin (Phil) Mulroe, and Doug (Katheryn) Coffman. He has many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Denise Coffman.

In lieu of flowers donations to the American Heart Association www.heart.org/en/affiliates/illinois or to the Independent Cat Society P.O. Box 735 Westville, IN 46391 in George's memory would be appreciated.

A funeral service for George will be held July 1, 2025, at 11:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel 3781 Central Ave. Lake Station, Indiana 46405. The burial will follow at McCool Cemetery in Portage. A visitation will also be held on July 1, 2025, from 9:00 am until the time of service.
