Staff Burleson Obituary

Fort Worth - Staff Sgt. Marcus Allen Burleson, USMC EOD 2nd Company, passed away from this life on October 9, 2025, at the age of 44. Marcus was born on January 13, 1981, in Odessa, Texas, to Kirk Burleson and Margaret (Kerr) Burleson.

His life was one of dedicated service, integrity, and profound commitment to his community. A proud Texan and beloved Veteran, Marcus enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technician with deployments to Iraq, Papua New Guinea, and Afghanistan.

After suffering catastrophic injuries in 2011, Marcus remained undeterred in his mission to support others and bring awareness to the challenges faced by veterans. As a Boot Campaign Veteran Ambassador and a speaker for several veteran organizations, he humbly shared his story of resilience, perseverance, and continued service - never ceasing to pay it forward through volunteerism and encouragement.

His proudest accomplishment, however, was being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. A member of Grace Bible Fellowship, Marcus enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and farm life with his animals and family.

Marcus was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dan Burleson.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Taja Burleson of Dublin, Texas; daughter, Tinzie Burleson; stepdaughter, Karlee Wheeler (Jacob); and grandson, Jessie. He is also survived by his parents, Kirk and Margaret Burleson; brother, David Burleson; grandmother, Betty Burleson; as well as many extended family and dear friends.

A visitation was held at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm St., in Weatherford, Texas, on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the same location. Inurnment will take place at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Staff Sgt. Burleson's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him. He will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and steadfast spirit.
