Karen Garove Obituary

Karen Dalbo Garove, 73, of Canonsburg, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2025, and has been restored with the peace and freedom to walk once again. Karen was the heart of her family and friends, always showing her love through cooking. She believed food was comfort for every season of life, whether celebrating joy, grieving loss, or simply gathering together. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, where her ginger snaps, her all-time favorite recipe, became a tradition and a reminder of her generous spirit. Karen is survived by her loving husband, Timothy; and their children, TJ, Courtney, Chris and Elise; along with her adored grandchildren. Karen is also survived by her sisters, Toni Basile and Terri Melone; and her brother, Fred Dalbo and their families. She will be remembered for her kindness, her giving heart, and the way she made everyone feel at home. Her family invites you to carry on her memory by baking her ginger snaps, best served with a delicious warm cup of coffee, just the way she loved to share them. Below is her recipe. A celebration of Karen's life will be held at a later date. Karen's Famous Ginger Snaps Ingredients: - 1 1/2 cups butter - 2 1/2 cups sugar - 1/2 cup dark molasses - 2 eggs - 4 1/4 cups flour - 2 tsp ginger - 4 tsp baking soda - 2 tsp cinnamon - 1 tsp salt Instructions: Preheat oven to 350F. Cream together butter and sugar in a mixer. Add dark molasses. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs and add to the butter mixture. Whisk together flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Add dry ingredients to the wet mixture in the mixer bowl. Mix just until everything is moist. Chill dough. Roll 1 teaspoon of dough into balls, then roll in sugar. Press lightly to flatten a bit, leaving them slightly thick. Bake 8-10 minutes. Let cool slightly on the pan before removing

Karen was simply one of the best friends I could have ever had. I could not have endured my teen years without her warmth, her generosity and her sense of humor. Many, many laughs-meaningful ones together.
I pause, close my eyes, and thank God for Karen in my life.

I have a lifetime of wonderful memories of time spent with Karen. Most memorable were the three weeks we spent touring (running through) five European countries. . . In our much younger days. I was always on the edge, but she not only tolerated (maybe not?) me, but she grounded me ... in a good way.
