Carol L. Bauer, 78, of Spalding and Omaha, NE, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 23, 2025 at Brookfield Park in St. Paul, NE.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2025 at St. Michael's Church in Spalding, NE with Fr. Lawrence Vadakkan officiating. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church with a 7:00 p.m. wake service.

Carol Lee Bauer, daughter of Dale and Agnes (LaFortezzo) Smith, was born on June 24, 1946, in Omaha, NE. Carol attended school in Omaha and graduated in 1964 from Omaha Cathedral High School. Carol then attended Creighton University where she earned a bachelor's degree in education, graduating in 1968.

On May 27, 1972, Carol was united in marriage to Larry Bauer at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Omaha, NE. The couple made their home in Omaha, NE during the school year and in Spalding, NE during the summers.

Carol taught high school history classes first at Benson, Cathedral, and later at Roncalli Catholic High School, all in Omaha. Carol and Larry later made Spalding their permanent home after both retiring from many years of teaching. During her life Carol enjoyed music, reading, and history. She was also very passionate about civil rights and social justice.

Carol is survived by her husband: Larry Bauer of Spalding, NE; daughter: Rachel (Mike) Dougherty and their children Olivia, Juliana, and Katherine Dougherty of Lincoln, NE; son: Stephen (Megan) Bauer and their children of Omaha, NE; sister: Deb (Rob) Mainelli of Omaha, NE; sisters-in-law: Elizabeth (Alan) Pfeifer of Grand Island, NE; Lucille Bauer of Omaha, NE; Helen (Tom) Cleary of Columbus, NE; brother-in-law: James Bauer of North Platte, NE; special cousin: Kathy (Bob) Sunderbruch of St. Charles, IL; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law: Mary Anne Bauer; and brother-in-law: John Bauer.
