John May Obituary

John T May, age 61 years, of Kewaskum (and formerly of Oshkosh), was called home to be with the Lord on June 25, 2025, at Froedtert Hospital of Milwaukee surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on September 6, 1963, to John Jr and Joan (nee Gilson) May. He grew up on the shores of Lake Winnebago, developing a lifelong love of fishing and hunting. John could easily identify any duck and spent many nights chasing racoons behind Walker Coonhounds. His attachment to the outdoors evolved into a deep addiction to shooting sporting clays, and especially FITASC (if you know, you know) for which he achieved the level of Master Class.

John married Leslie (nee Mueller-Grady), his life-partner of 18 years on February 22, 2025, and was bonus-dad to Jared and Devon Grady, sharing all of life's routines and joys. In his leisure time, John loved spending time with his canine companions, Max and Simba, and took a special interest in perfecting his grill-master game. His favorite afternoon included a tasty, smoked creation, playing with the dogs, and taking a nap...obviously living his life by his infamous high standards.

John was a 1982 graduate of Oshkosh North High School and subsequently earned his engineering degree from Fox Valley Technical College. John had exceptional mechanical acumen and attention to detail that led him to a successful, lifelong engineering career. He proudly worked building garbage trucks for Leach Company, and then as a Project Manager for Lapham-Hickey Steel. A particularly proud moment of John's career came in 2018 when he was granted a patent for a load supporting stand.

Those John leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Leslie May, bonus sons Jared and Devon Grady of Kewaskum, WI, his mother Joan May of Oshkosh, WI, sister Jeanne Ackerman (Maury) of Estero, FL, Jodi Hannis (Jeff) of Oshkosh, WI, and Jeffrey May (Becky) of Jackson, WI. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John May Jr.

In accordance with John's wishes, there will be a small, private service at a later date.

Those who knew John well would agree that he wasn't exactly a people person, but he sure loved dogs. Please feel free to direct memorials in his name to a local dog rescue or humane society of choice.
