Howard Michael Nuber Jr.
Howard Michael (Mike) Nuber Jr., 76, of Waynesville, NC went home to be with his Savior after a short illness on July 27, 2025.
Born on January 16,1949, in Erie, PA, he was the son of the late Howard Michael Nuber Sr. and Madge Elizabeth Heaps Nuber. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by, his sister, Rebecca Jayne Monde, his brother, Kevin Richard Nuber, his nephews, Gregory Monde and Corban Nuber, and his granddaughter, Summer Booth.
Mike graduated from Harbor Creek High School in 1966 where he excelled in track and cross country. His love for running stayed with him his whole life and he participated in many races as well as triathlons. While living in Erie he was also active on multiple softball teams,.
He served with the United States Marine Corp by completing two tours of duty in Vietnam in 1969 and 1970. After returning home Mike graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and went on to be employed with General Electric, American Sterilizer, and Steris. Mike met the love of his life, Bonnie, while attending Christian Celebration Center in Michigan. Mike and Bonnie were married on September 28, 1996. After they moved to Florida Mike began to teach in multiple schools. His last assignment was teaching Math at Pepin Academies to students with learning disabilities and autism. Of all of his jobs Mike loved working with these amazing kids the most. His impact on all those who knew him is without measure. He was kind, present, selfless, compassionate, and witty. A grandpa who was always up for any adventure. He could never tell a story in ten words when a thousand were available. Mike had a sincere love for Jesus Christ. His last few months were spent growing in his knowledge of his Lord and Savior and in prayer for those he loved. He will never be forgotten.
Mike is survived by his wife, Bonnie Jean (Priest) Nuber, his brother, Jeffrey Deane Nuber (Deborah); Nieces and Nephews; Timothy Monde (Kim), Todd Monde (Tessa Bree), Rachel Pavlik (Jason), Erin Bizzarro (Joseph), Chad Nuber and Curt Nuber.
Mike's greatest blessing was adding Bonnie's children to his life, they love him like a father and will cherish his memory. They are as follows: Christa and David Krohn, Tom Benaway and Heather Mulkerns, Sarah Benaway Tatis and Cristhian Tatis, Janelle and David Booth, as well as his grandchildren, Rebecca, Joshua, and Caleb Krohn, Myles Benaway, Alex and Chris Tatis, and Brenden and Aaron Booth.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Mike's life will take place Saturday, August 23rd at Christian Celebration Center, 6100 Swede Ave, Midland MI. The Rev. Christa Krohn and the Rev. Dean Grabill will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with a service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the family to defray the cost of Mike's hospital stay.
