Ruth Elaine Grider, 88, of Alexandria, TN and formerly of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born December 12, 1935, in New Castle, Indiana to the late Ralph & Mary (Koons) Higgins.
Ruth was proud to be a Member of the Upper Helton Baptist Church in Alexandria TN. She Graduated New Castle High School 1953. Ruth was head of several Chamber of Commerce including Decatur, Richmond and Peru. She worked for Dunham Lehr, Paul Graphics as well and concluded her career at 70 with the Wayne County Tourism Bureau.
Ruth was a singer, and passed up College to become a Mother. She loved gospel music, especially the Gaither's. Knitting, crocheting and reading a good book were things you could commonly find Ruth doing.
Ruth is survived by her children; Dan Coleman and Steve (Judi) Coleman: granddaughter; Erica (Derek) Vires; Kerri Owens, Sherri Owens and Mike Owens: Great Grandchildren; Arthur Stevens, Eva Stevens, Amanda Livsey & Chelsea Beechner, Ashley Owens. Great- Great Grandchildren Ashland Marie Kelly, Briella Beechner, and soon to be Esther Vires, Ivy Jade Pennefield. Cousin Nancy Sharp and Family: All of the Higgins Cousings and Loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents listed above and grandson's Benjamin Coleman & Joshua Owens.
Visitation for Ruth will be Wednesday July 31, 2024, at Rose City Funeral Home, 2011 Broad ST in New Castle from 10:00 AM ~ 12:00 PM. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM with her son Steve Coleman officiating.
Burial will take place at South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Rose City Funeral Home directors and staff are honored to serve Ruth's family.
